In this article we will guide you through how to create a short URL in your message in Apifon platform.
When creating a messaging campaign, you can embed a URL into the text of your message so that when the subscriber clicks on it, they will be transferred to the landing page.
- An SMS message has a limit of 160 characters per message, so if your message contains more, a second message will be created. A Viber message has a limit of 1000 characters per message.
- When you embed a URL, especially if it is long, it reduces the character limit, alters the text’s uniformity and distracts the subscriber’s attention.
- The solution to this problem is to convert a long URL into a short URL.
Task Roadmap
You can shorten a URL in the following ways:
- Copy-Paste a URL
When you insert a URL in your message, the URL is detected; a pop-up window appears and you are given the option to shorten it. - Insert a subscriber field
When you insert a URL type of subscriber field, which contains a link, the URL is detected; a pop-up window appears and you are given the option to shorten it. If you are creating a Viber Campaign and the layout includes a call to action button, the URL is placed inside the button.
When you insert a TEXT type of subscriber field, which contains a link, keep in mind that the URL cannot be detected. To shorten it you have to type: {SHORTEN_URL:}.
For example, the name of the subscriber field which contains a URL (like kb.apifon.com) is TextURL, and you want to shorten it then you have to type:
{SHORTEN_URL:{TEXTURL}}
Note: Only one URL can be embedded in the text of the message in a short URL format. If you wish to place more than one URL in your message, the rest won’t be shortened.
Now you know how to create and embed a short URL in your message.
