Double Opt-in

In this article, we will guide you on how to activate and edit the Double Opt-in mechanism through the Apifon platform.

Double OPT-in is an extra level of security that helps you reduce the chance of spam addresses in your lists. When registering a subscriber in your list, there is the option of using the Double Opt-In mechanism, in which the subscriber receives an SMS and/or Email to confirm that he wants to subscribe to your list.

Task Roadmap

You can activate the Double Opt-In mechanism in two ways:

  1. By creating a new list. 

    • You can find here more information about how to create a new list.

  2. Through an existing list.

    • From the Dashboard menu go to “Subscribers”, choose the submenu “Lists” and select the list you want to activate the mechanism.

    • Select "Settings" -> "Double Opt-In". At this point, you activate the channel through which you want the subscriber to confirm his subscription. If you select the SMS channel then an additional confirmation step is activated and your new subscribers are shown an overview of their data for verification and additional confirmation.

Double Opt-In Forms

After activating the Double Opt-In option you have the ability to create/edit the forms that will appear to the end-user as described here.

In the Double Opt-In category there are available the below Forms:

  1. Check Your Devices Page.
  2. Mobile Confirmation Message.
  3. Email Confirmation Message.
  4. Review Confirmation Form.

  1.  Check Your Devices Page
      • This form is shown after the subscriber clicks submit button in the sign-up form he has just completed. This page informs the subscriber to go check his devices – the destinations he has just completed in his sign-up form, in order to find the respective confirmation messages.
      • You can edit this Form with the drag-and-drop Builder on your right and then select Save.
  1. Mobile Confirmation Message
      • Confirm your mobile message is sent to the subscriber after he has seen the Check Your Devices Page. 
      • Subscriber needs to click the {CONFIRM_MOBILE_URL} tag in order to become subscribed in the list.
  2. Email Confirmation Message
      • If the Email channel is selected when activating the mechanism, the subscriber receives the Email as shown in the following Form.
      • Subscriber needs to click the {CONFIRM_EMAIL_URL} tag in order to become subscribed in the list.
      • You can edit this Form with the drag-and-drop Builder on your right and then select Save.

  3. Review Confirmation Form
    • The Review Confirmation Form is an extra and optional step that can be enabled after enabling double opt-in for the mobile channel.
    • After the subscriber confirms his registration via the SMS he received, an overview of the data he has entered in the registration form will be sent to him to confirm his registration again in this additional step.
    • You can edit this Form with the drag-and-drop Builder on your right and then select Save.
    • If there are also groups and GDPR options within the form, then its appearance changes and you can make the changes you want.

Notes: If the Double Opt-In mechanism has been activated and the subscriber has not confirmed his subscription to the respective channel, then he will be added to your list as Unconfirmed and will not be able to receive any communication from you.
